Affirmations, Spirituality, Inner Peace

If you have ever read (or listened – hello Audible) to a self development book you’ve no doubt read/heard things like “what you speak about, you bring about” or “what you choose to focus on becomes your reality”. These affirmations about believing in the power of positivity are always the main focus of these types of books and are usually what we roll our eyes at and disregard. In a world filled with absolute chaos, negativity, hatred and death it is so hard to believe in these powerful words/phrases.

When I was diagnosed with cancer one of the first things I thought was “why me?” as if some higher power was choosing me, of all the billions of people in this world, to suffer through the trials of cancer. Guess what…that’s not really the question I should’ve been asking myself. Once I turned the “why me” into “how can I use this to help others” my ability to smile and be positive was as easy as breathing.

I won’t lie, I still struggle, just like everyone on this planet, with negativity. I’ve been reading/listening to Jen Sincero’s book “You are a Badass” and one of the things she talks about is the “Big Snooze” or “BS”, which rears its ugly head only to sabotage your happiness. It comes at times when you feel like you are just getting a handle on life and if you are weak minded, or still asleep as she says, then you take that as a sign to just give up. However, it’s not a sign to give up, it’s a sign that you are heading in the right direction and that you need to PUSH THROUGH IT!!! So if cancer is my BS, which if you’ve been following my story you’ll know my biggest fear is death so this makes a ton of sense, then giving up would’ve ultimately meant succumbing to my fear of death and probably dying.

Yet, by me being so passionate about maintaining my life, positivity and smile through all this BS (seriously cancer is bull-shit), I’ve manifested a ton of amazing things. I’ve met tons of beautiful, amazing souls who have helped to transform my life. I’ve received numerous messages from other women who are going through this battle telling me how much my words and presence have helped them. I’ve made vows to serve this community through my blog, podcast, social media and public advocacy work.

The spirit, my spirit, lives this passionately pink, sparkly life deep inside my being and when I tap into her I know that I am on the right path. I feel it in my bones. This blog post is basically me yelling to the universe, I’m ready! I want to change my life. I want to stop allowing my BS to stand in the way of my greatness.

So here’s my task for you (if you’ve made it this far in my post and haven’t rolled your eyes and moved on to reading about the awfulness in the world around us) do the following:

  1. Set a timer on your phone for 2 mins (you can increase this if you want)
  2. Silence the notifications on your phone so they don’t disturb you (I like airplane mode)
  3. Get comfy – doesn’t matter where you are but please make sure you are in a safe place, like not driving…
  4. Close your eyes
  5. Quite your brain (seriously this in itself is the hardest part)
  6. Be present in your body (feel your body from the inside out)
  7. Say these words over and over (out loud or in your head) “I am loved, I am worthy, I am awesome”
  8. Do this until your timer goes off

Any time you feel scared, alone, anxious, unhappy, angry, sad, or any sort of negative energy, stop and repeat this process. If you feel comfortable you can journal how you feel the minute you open your eyes. Self reflect on this feeling and try to hold on to this for as long as you can. Meditation and chanting these 3 phrases over and over and over may seem silly at first but remember your embarrassment or feeling like this is total crap is just your BS talking. And once you stop believing your BS and start actually believing what you are saying an amazing thing will happen…you’ll actually BE LOVED, BE WORTHY, BE AWESOME!
